WittKieffer has been engaged to conduct the search for the EVP/General Counsel of Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Kootenai Health (KH) is a rapidly growing regional health system with one of the state’s busiest emergency departments with over to 52,000 visits and 385 open heart surgeries annually. The main campus is a 330-bed community-owned hospital supported by an employed physician group with over 220 providers across the region. In 2019, KH was named to the list of 150 Top Places to Work in Healthcare by Becker’s Healthcare and also recognized with Magnet Hospital designation since 2006. In 2014, KH became the 30th member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network. In 2016, it was named one of the top 50 cardiovascular hospitals in the United States by U.S. News and World Report. Today, KH has 3,500 employees, over $550 million net operating revenue and an A rating by S&P. They recently announced the acquisition of two hospitals in early 2020 as they continue to expand their regional footprint.
The General Counsel is responsible for managing, guiding and providing legal services to include responding to requests for legal, strategic, or legislative advice or assistance and/or advising on matters affecting fiduciary and other legal obligations for all areas within Kootenai Health, joint ventures, affiliate and/or managed sites and/or for other business arrangements. This executive will serve as the chief legal advisor to the health system senior leadership and Board of Trustees.
The General Counsel is expected to be a highly strategic, proactive attorney who is well-versed in the business dynamics and regulatory environment of the healthcare industry. He/she will be innovative and entrepreneurial in creating solutions that facilitate the health system strategy to assure the success and growth of the organization.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten years experience
in a law firm or in-house legal department with a practice
focused on the healthcare industry; this experience will include
hospital business operations and contracting; hospital/physician
contracting; business transactions including joint ventures,
lending and mergers/acquisitions/dispositions, real estate
transactions and managed care contracting. A law degree from an
ABA accredited school of law, membership in the Idaho State Bar,
