Health Sciences Transactions Counsel

WittKieffer has been retained by UC San Francisco Health (UCSF Health) to identify the system’s next Health Sciences Transactions Counsel.

UCSF Health is internationally renowned for providing highly specialized and innovative care. UCSF Health’s family of care includes UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center at Parnassus Heights, UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion, and UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay; UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals in Oakland and San Francisco; Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital and Clinics; UCSF Benioff Children’s Physicians; and the UCSF Faculty Practice. UCSF Health is a part of UC San Francisco, which is one of the top universities in the nation for health sciences research and higher education. The UCSF School of Medicine is ranked among the nation’s top medical schools.

Reporting directly to the Chief Campus Counsel of UCSF Health and the Deputy General Counsel for Health Affairs, the Health Sciences Transactions Counsel provides a broad range of health care legal services, with an emphasis on complex and high impact health care transactions as well as health care regulatory analysis and strategic legal advice, primarily for the UCSF Health enterprise which includes the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry and the Graduate Division as well as the Office of Clinical Enterprise Compliance and the Office of the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer. The position will serve as a liaison between UCSF campus clients and UC Legal Oakland concerning the needs and requirements of these units pertaining to legal matters. 

The ideal candidate will be a highly engaged attorney with a strong health law background. Candidates should possess a law degree from an ABA accredited school of law and have membership or be eligible for membership in the California State Bar (out of state candidates will be expected to become full California bar members within one year of employment). Candidates should have a strong track record of success supporting an academic medical center or integrated health care delivery system.
